When I was a frequent visitor and a more active member at concertina .net years ago, I found out about ABC music notation which was invented by Chris Walshaw. I studied this to an extent and found it to be such a great way to get my tunes turned into the dots. I am not at all any kind of computer or code nerd, and I have kept things quite simple, but the code has a lot to offer beyond what I have managed to use so far. You can produce some very sophisticated sheet music -- and audio -- with ABC.
Here in this blog, I've so far included the basic ABC code for each tune I've posted, up until "Paying No Mind" posted earlier today. Why not for that one? Well, I'm sure I've got the correct ABC somewhere, but I can't find it. And every file (of mine) I do find turns out to be somehow wrong. This same thing has happened for other tunes, too. I've had to make several corrections. I'm sure(?) I originally left my files in perfect shape, but they either got corrupted or the apps I use for playback will no longer read them correctly, even though they did before.
So. Long story short, I'll quit posting my ABC code and just give my tunes in the dot form -- though I will still prefer to use ABC code as a writing tool, offline. Just "ABC for Me." If I do happen to get a decent translation into dots (or a .mid file), that's great, but otherwise I'll just write-out the sheet music by hand.
I could maximize the capabilities of the code if I were more devoted to computers and to all of the wonderful ABC software that's available. But, that's not me... I'm just an old lady with a not-extremely-smart cell phone, these days, ha ha 😄
